Just as the iPod was slimmed down significantly in the compact iPod Nano, the iPhone Nano - if rumors are true - will be noticeably smaller than the current iPhone. Apple will likely cut some features, while streamlining others. One major drawback to a smaller iPhone, of course, is a smaller screen-space, though the device is expected to retain the iPhone's touchscreen interface. Reports suggest that the iPhone Nano may be released as early as Q4 2007. The patent application shows a PSP-like mobile device with a rotating display, under which is a set of buttons, not unlike those found on a PSP gaming device. The screen likely flips up to a landscape position when the user wants to play games, and back to a regular vertical position for phone functions.
