iPhone Nano Rumored

Less than two weeks since the release of the Apple iPhone, rumors have been circulating that Apple might already have a smaller version of the iPhone in the works, appropriately named the iPhone Nano. Just as the iPod was slimmed down significantly in the compact iPod Nano, the iPhone Nano - if rumors are true - will be noticeably smaller than the current iPhone. Apple will likely cut some features, while streamlining others. One major drawback to a smaller iPhone, of course, is a smaller screen-space, though the device is expected to retain the iPhone's touchscreen interface. Reports suggest that the iPhone Nano may be released as early as Q4 2007. More details will be provided as they become available.

We reported last week that Sony Ericsson had filed a patent for a device which resembled a PSP mobile phone. Though the patent may be accurate, it now seems that the device is not in fact include a PSP gaming system. It has been reported on several credible blogs today that Sony Europe’s CEO David has dismissed all PSP phone rumors, saying:

“I know the head of Sony Ericsson very well, he has a Walkman phone and a Cybershot phone available, but I know nothing about a PSP phone. I haven’t heard anything about it at all – and I would know. They wouldn’t develop it without our knowledge.”

It would seem that Sony Ericsson has plans to produce a PSP mobile phone, according to a patent filed by the company on May 31. The patent application shows a PSP-like mobile device with a rotating display, under which is a set of buttons, not unlike those found on a PSP gaming device. The screen likely flips up to a landscape position when the user wants to play games, and back to a regular vertical position for phone functions. As of today there has been no official word from Sony-Ericsson nor any details about a possible launch date.
