Hi-Tech Wealth Co., a well established producer of telecommunication products in China, has announced that will be releasing six solar-powered mobile phones this year, and as many as 30 more next year. 

The solar powered phones have scale-like solar panel placed along the the top side of the clamshell. The phone can be recharged from nearly any source capable of producing light, including light bulbs and candles. Though several other companies are said to be working on similar products, Hi-Tech may be the first to go to market with solar cell phones. 

"With more than 400 million mobile phones in the country, China would save a great amount of electricity if all its mobile phones were recharged by light," said Zhang Zhengyu, chairman, Hi-Tech Wealth.
