Climber Makes Highest Phone Call from atop Mt. Everest
Early on May 21 atop the highest peak in the world, Mt. Everest at 29,035 feet, the British mountain climber Rod Baber, 36, made a short land-based cellular phone call utilizing Morotola's recently build phone towers in China. Wearing an oxygen mask and enduring temperatures around -10 degrees, Baber phoned a special voice mail system set up by Motorola and said, "Hi, it’s Rod making the world’s highest phone call." The phone call was made using Baber's Motorola MOTO Z8 phone, which is not yet available in the US.
